Um, no, I haven’t died, I promise. I’ve just been busy.

One good thing is WG’s schedule at the farm is finally easing up, so he’s not as swamped. We’ve actually been able to get together in person twice in the last few weeks, and that’s with me out of town for about half that time. On the flip side, my work schedule has changed so I get off three to six hours earlier than him, depending on the day, which means we haven’t been talking on the phone as often. But that also means that on his days off, I get off work early enough for us to spend time together if we want. So far, I think it’s a net gain.

There’s also some work craziness going on, and who knows how it’s going to end. I might get a promotion out of it, but there are a lot of dominos left to fall. There’s another person I know is also being considered, and she’s better qualified in some areas. But her husband is publisher, which means she pretty much has to be enough more qualified than the other options to convince the regional VP that this isn’t nepotism. EE wants her. She and P want me. She and I decided to let EE and P fight it out, since it’s going to get downright weird on several levels. And the regional VP has heard so much about me from P that he wants to meet me next time he’s in town.

Meanwhile, WG is trying to figure out if he can afford to retire soon because he’s getting burnt out, but he doesn’t know what questions to ask the HR lady. So I’m trying to coach him into asking the right questions (at his request) because I can’t get involved publicly. That might change the calculations EE would make for some upcoming decisions, but since I don’t know about it in my work role, I can’t say anything – and WG won’t. (He also wouldn’t understand that EE might need to know for long-range planning.) I can see his point, especially since he’s not at all sure he *can* retire anytime soon – he just wants to.

I’m also knee-deep in choir and Christmas crafts – we won’t even mention making Christmas cards. I need to get going on that. And I need to finish and polish River so I can post it and meet the 20K mark, which means finishing the rebuilding of my Web site in iWeb since publishing from my PC is no longer an option. That all has to be done by the end of September, and I need to write my Jixaversary story to post Oct. 1. And dare we even mention NaNo? Or my novel that’s been languishing from lack of attention? Or my six-week hiatus from running. And we’re definitely not mentioning the chaos that is my apartment.

Sorry I’ve been rather silent lately – life’s been crazy. Since CE’s on vacation until April 5, it still is, actually. So this is kind of a news and notes-type post.

* WG’s still contemplating, so little is new there. *RME*
* Some of the training stuff I’m trying to get done at work is actually bearing fruit, which is encouraging.
* The crud that SE had last month is still running around the newsroom. The biggest issue is a fever that lasts four or five days, which has knocked out about a third of the staff at some point during the last six weeks. So far, I’ve avoided the illness, though not the side-effects on workload from people being sick.
* I wanted to try knitting with cotton yarn, so I’m making washcloths to coordinate with my bathroom. It’s different than acrylic and wool, that’s for sure, but I’m enjoying it.
* Writing for fun has been put on the backburner lately. I really need to at least spend 10-15 minutes free writing each day to get back in the habit, but with everything else that’s going on, I haven’t.
* Editing and revising my NaNo stories also is on my to-do list, but hasn’t gotten done. I think I need to start making an actual daily list like I do for work. It’s definitely helping there.
* There’s a new knitting club at the city library every other Saturday, but I have yet to make it. *sigh* This weekend it was because I needed to get my hair cut before the awards banquet, and the place I go has limited hours because it’s run by the local cosmetology school.
* Oh, and I’m in the doghouse with CE, so my task for the next few weeks is to get back in her good graces ASAP, then make sure I stay there so the item that ticked her off doesn’t take on undue importance in my annual review in late May. *sigh* (It happened last year, which is why I’m wary. I need to start ticking her off in the fall instead of the spring.)
* We had a church mission the last few nights, which was pretty cool. The speaker/liturgical composer – Grayson Warren Brown – had CDs, books and songbooks available, so I picked up two CDs and the accompanying songbooks. My liturgical collection in my iTunes is getting larger. :)
* As usual, I got skunked in SE’s March Madness pool. On the plus side, I was still in the running after the first weekend, which is unusual.

I still haven’t heard anything, but last night BSM apparently said something to WG asking where his “special friend” was. (This, obviously, was after I left for the evening.) He was muttering about it later when he called.
