Um, no, I haven’t died, I promise. I’ve just been busy.

One good thing is WG’s schedule at the farm is finally easing up, so he’s not as swamped. We’ve actually been able to get together in person twice in the last few weeks, and that’s with me out of town for about half that time. On the flip side, my work schedule has changed so I get off three to six hours earlier than him, depending on the day, which means we haven’t been talking on the phone as often. But that also means that on his days off, I get off work early enough for us to spend time together if we want. So far, I think it’s a net gain.

There’s also some work craziness going on, and who knows how it’s going to end. I might get a promotion out of it, but there are a lot of dominos left to fall. There’s another person I know is also being considered, and she’s better qualified in some areas. But her husband is publisher, which means she pretty much has to be enough more qualified than the other options to convince the regional VP that this isn’t nepotism. EE wants her. She and P want me. She and I decided to let EE and P fight it out, since it’s going to get downright weird on several levels. And the regional VP has heard so much about me from P that he wants to meet me next time he’s in town.

Meanwhile, WG is trying to figure out if he can afford to retire soon because he’s getting burnt out, but he doesn’t know what questions to ask the HR lady. So I’m trying to coach him into asking the right questions (at his request) because I can’t get involved publicly. That might change the calculations EE would make for some upcoming decisions, but since I don’t know about it in my work role, I can’t say anything – and WG won’t. (He also wouldn’t understand that EE might need to know for long-range planning.) I can see his point, especially since he’s not at all sure he *can* retire anytime soon – he just wants to.

I’m also knee-deep in choir and Christmas crafts – we won’t even mention making Christmas cards. I need to get going on that. And I need to finish and polish River so I can post it and meet the 20K mark, which means finishing the rebuilding of my Web site in iWeb since publishing from my PC is no longer an option. That all has to be done by the end of September, and I need to write my Jixaversary story to post Oct. 1. And dare we even mention NaNo? Or my novel that’s been languishing from lack of attention? Or my six-week hiatus from running. And we’re definitely not mentioning the chaos that is my apartment.

This one’s a doozy, too. I just signed up to write at least 500 words a day for 30 days. They have to be fanfiction, which means any writing toward my book doesn’t count (nor does writing for work).

So now I have to find two hours each morning to run (slog), about 30 minutes each day to write fanfiction, at least that much time to write my book, plus find time to clean my apartment. Can somebody invent a 30-hour day?

In other news, I took a break from running over the weekend, which ends tomorrow. I had blisters on the bottoms of both feet from my old orthotics and while they weren’t painful and they weren’t getting worse, they also weren’t getting any better. Since I walk around in bare feet a lot, there was a decent chance I could step on something and pop one. With Mal coming in for the weekend and the associated walking in DC, I figured it was a good time to take a break. The good news is they seem to have finally healed, so I can start running again.

I started designing Christmas cards last night, and I’m going to figure out what I need for each and assemble a mock-up during the weekend. I know I need ribbon, but I’m not sure what else I need that I don’t already have.

For those who don’t read my other blog, my quest to kill my credit card debt by the end of the year is on track. That means come Jan. 1, I can start saving for a house and a new(er) car. The house is top priority, but I’m still going to be putting a decent amount away for the car in case mine starts falling apart. Fortunately, I’m putting so much to debt now that once it can go into savings, the money will start piling up pretty quickly.

As I mentioned before, Mal came to DC over the weekend and I got to meet her, plus see the Jix Chix. Aleta and Mary are the only ones I’d seen lately. We had a blast! My sister’s stuffed animals are now jealous because we got our picture taken with the Swedish Chef at the American History museum in their muppet exhibit.

I added a few more links to the collection below. If I’ve left you out, it’s not that I don’t like you – I just wasn’t sure you wanted to be added. Drop me a line at my .Mac account or leave a message in comments and I’ll add you in.

Relaxing weekend January 15, 2006

After 24 hours of fun, I’m much more relaxed than I have been. :)

Last night, Aleta and I went to Mary and Jenn’s luau. I got several comments on my sarong outfit, which was funny because it was made from $4 of clearance fabric and with a pair of pinking shears. :) They had leis for us, so I have two (Aleta graciously let me have hers) to bring back – one for me and one to continue a running “discussion” with WG. ;)

We got back to discover the power was out, which meant we both went right to bed. The power came back on about 11:45, so I was able to toss my laundry in the dryer and turn on the radio.

Today we hit IKEA for breakfast, then she graded papers while I picked up some stuff I needed. The bathroom shelf I wanted was suposedly there, but they discovered when I went to pick it up that they were out of stock. Since I’d already paid for it, and it’s a fairly light package, they’ll be mailing it to me in a couple of weeks.
I also went to Michael’s, gift card and coupon in tow, and then Recollections, which was having a sale. I ended up with lots of great stuff for very little out-of-pocket money (gift cards don’t count).
Now we’re just chilling in front of the fire – and I still have all of tomorrow off. :)
